Workhouse accounts

Two volumes March 1857- September 1870 and 25 March 1871-29 September 1878, of workhouse accounts for the Borrisokane, Kildysart, Nenagh, Parsonstown, and Roscrea Poor Law Unions.

The account books were put together and kept by Henry Trench due to his involvement with the Poor Law Unions.

Presentment or 'Jobs' Books for the years 1830-1878 from two sets of bound volumes originally belonging to James Franck Rolleston, Franckfort Castle, Dunkerrin, and Henry Trench, Cangort Park, Shinrone, respectively, with some crossover. Also includes two coroner's inquest report books of James Dillon, King's County Coroner, and 27 printed general lists of jurors from the baronies of Ballyboy, Ballycowan, Garrycastle, Geashill, Kilcoursey, Moycashel, Lower Philipstown and Upper Philipstown.

Printed circular C. L. 80/40 from Department of Local Government and Public Health regarding progress on the establishment of Parish Councils in relation to other bodies such as the Security Forces and the Red Cross.

T. J. Kelly - Formation of Parish Committees

Undated typewritten statement issued by T. J. Kelly, Secretary Offaly County Council regarding factors to be considered by the parish committee. 'Recognising the seriousness of the situation, the government consider the formation of Parish Committees is a matter of the gravest urgency and expect all to co-operate with the Parish Priest in the formation of such a committee'.

J. F. Mahon - food and turf production

Memoranda from J. F. Mahon, Secretary's Office Tullamore to the Secretary of each Parish Council requesting details on the number of labourers in the district who desire to cultivate allotments. With letter from T. J. Kelly to the Secretary of each Parish Council regarding proposed strategies increasing turf production.

P. Boland appealing to farmers for increased food production

Statement from Patrick Boland, Chairman Offaly County Council appealing for the farmers of Leix and Offaly to increase food production and suggesting the Parish Council take a census of all arable land in the area and to impress on those who can to increase their acreage by 20 percent.
